Ramsau am Dachstein is the Styrian gateway to the Dachstein glacier. The Dachstein Gletscherbahn cable car rises from the village to the upper glacier station at 2,700 meters, where the Sky Walk glass platform, the Hängebrücke (suspension bridge), and the Eispalast (Ice Palace carved inside the glacier) form the main attraction cluster. In autumn and spring, the glacier plateau also offers reliable cross-country skiing. The Ramsau side of the Dachstein gives Styrian context; the other face of the same mountain (accessed via Krippenstein from Obertraun) serves the Hallstatt-Salzkammergut visitors. Ramsau is 10 km from Schladming by car or regional bus. Check derdachstein.at for current cable car schedules and ticket prices.
