Dachstein Gletscher

The Dachstein Gletscher is the glacier face of the Dachstein massif accessible from Ramsau am Dachstein by the Gletscherbahn cable car. The upper station at 2,700 meters is home to the Sky Walk glass viewing platform (extending over a 250-meter drop), the “Stairway to Nothingness” suspension bridge, and the Eispalast (Ice Palace), an illuminated grotto carved inside the glacial ice. The glacier itself is retreating year by year. The combination of engineered altitude drama and genuine natural spectacle makes this one of the strongest half-day experiences in Styria. Ramsau is 10 km from Schladming by car or regional bus. Bring warm layers; the upper station is typically 10-15°C colder than the valley. Note that the Krippenstein cable car from Obertraun serves the opposite face of the same mountain, with access to the natural ice and mammoth caves instead.
