The Cave Church (Sziklatemplom) on Gellert Hill is a chapel built into a natural cave, operated by Pauline monks from 1926 until the Communist government walled it shut in 1951, imprisoned the monks, and sealed it for 38 years. It reopened in 1989 as Communism collapsed. Entry costs around EUR 3; open daily 9am-7:30pm. The entrance is set into the rock face directly behind the Hotel Gellert and easy to miss. Tram 19/41 or bus 27 to Gellert ter. Allow 20-30 minutes.
