Juliet did not exist and Shakespeare never visited Verona, which makes Casa di Giulietta one of the more philosophically interesting tourist sites in Europe. The 13th-century house on Via Cappello was associated with the Cappello family and retrofitted in the 1930s with the famous balcony.

Casa di Giulietta on Via Cappello is Verona’s most-visited attraction after the Arena, despite the fact that Juliet was a fictional character and Shakespeare never visited the city. The 13th-century house was retrofitted with its famous balcony in 1936. The courtyard with the bronze Juliet statue (whose right breast is rubbed smooth for luck) is free to enter at any time; house entry costs around EUR 7. Open Tuesday-Sunday from 8:30am. Arrive before 9am or after 5pm to avoid the worst crowds. Five minutes on foot from Piazza delle Erbe.
