Bratislava’s Stare Mesto (Old Town) is a compact pedestrian zone walkable end to end in under 30 minutes. Michael’s Gate, the only surviving medieval gate, stands at the northern entrance; the Primate’s Palace, where Napoleon signed the Peace of Pressburg in 1805, houses a Hall of Mirrors. Bronze street sculptures, including the much-photographed Cumil emerging from a sewer cover, are scattered through the lanes. The district is free to explore. Individual attractions have small entry fees. Bratislava is 1 hour from Vienna by fast train and significantly cheaper across the board.
