The Austriahütte on the Ramsau am Dachstein plateau dates from 1880 and now combines mountain hut hospitality with a small Alpine Museum on the history of mountaineering and Alpenverein activity in the Dachstein region. Accessible by foot from Ramsau village in about 45 minutes on flat plateau terrain. Check alpenverein.at for current opening season. Ramsau is 10 km from Schladming; combine with the Dachstein Glacier cable car for a full day on the massif.
