The Alter Dom (Ignatiuskirche) in central Linz is a Baroque Jesuit church completed in 1678 that served as Linz’s cathedral until 1924. Anton Bruckner was organist here from 1856 to 1868; the organ he played is still in place. Free entry; open daily. Domgasse 3, about 5 minutes from the Hauptplatz. Combine with the Neuer Dom (the current cathedral, completed 1924 and the largest church in Austria) nearby, and the Ars Electronica Center for a full Linz day covering the city’s ecclesiastical and contemporary cultural poles.

Alter Dom
The Alter Dom in Linz is formally the Ignatiuskirche, a Jesuit Baroque church completed in 1678 that served as the cathedral of Linz until the massive Neuer Dom (New Cathedral) was finished in 1924. Anton Bruckner was the organist here for 12 years, from 1856 to 1868, before he moved to Vienna. The organ on which he worked is still in place.
