The Airwalk Kölnbrein is a glass-and-steel cantilevered platform on the crown of Austria’s highest dam (2,000m), overhanging a 200m drop to the turquoise reservoir below. Access via the Malta Hochalmstrasse toll road above Gmuend in Kaernten; typically open May to October. Check verbund.com for current access and pricing. Car required; Gmuend is 75 km from Klagenfurt. Allow 2 to 3 hours for the drive up and back through 29 hairpin turns. Combine with a visit to Gmuend’s medieval town center below.
