Affenberg Landskron

About 200 Japanese macaques live free-range on the forested hillside below Burg Landskron, and you walk through their territory on a guided path. They ignore you for the most part, occasionally climb on you for the most part, and occasionally steal your belongings entirely.

About 200 Japanese macaques roam free on the hillside below Burg Landskron, 7 km north of Villach. Visitors walk through the colony on a guided path; the animals are habituated but wild. The Adlerarena bird of prey show at the castle above runs concurrently in season. Combined, the two activities fill a half day easily. Open April to October, daily from 9:00. Adults pay around EUR 16-18. Car access is easiest from Villach. Pair with the Faaker See or Ossiacher See for a full Carinthian day.
