Zell am Ziller is a Zillertal valley town known for the Gauderfest, one of Austria’s oldest folk festivals with continuous records from 1420, held each May with traditional music, Tyrolean wrestling (Ranggeln), and the Gauder Bock beer. The Zillertal Arena ski area above the town connects to the wider Zillertal ski circuit. The Zillertalbahn narrow-gauge railway from Jenbach takes about 30 minutes; Jenbach is 45 minutes from Innsbruck on the main Inn valley line. The village is quieter and more village-scale than Mayrhofen at the valley head. For the Gauderfest, confirm dates and book accommodation well in advance. For skiing, the Zillertal Arena pass covers the connected area.
