St. Johann im Pongau

Sankt Johann im Pongau is a Pongau market town anchored by the Neo-Gothic Pfarrkirche, locally known as the Pongauer Dom for its cathedral-like scale. The Liechtensteinklamm gorge, one of the deepest accessible gorges in the Eastern Alps at over 300 meters, is a short drive from town (open May to October, ticket required). The town sits on the Tauern railway with direct trains from Salzburg taking about 60 minutes, making it one of the most accessible Pongau bases by public transport. The Ski Amade ski area is reachable by ski bus from the station. Hotels are solid mid-range.
