Sankt Anton am Arlberg is where alpine skiing was systematized as a teachable technique by Hannes Schneider in the 1920s, and the ski area that grew from his school is now the largest in Austria. The Ski Arlberg connects St. Anton in Tyrol to Lech and Zuers in Vorarlberg across the pass, covering over 300km of pistes. The terrain is challenging and the off-piste reputation is deserved. Apres-ski at the Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh venues is among the most intense in the Alps. Direct trains from Innsbruck take about 90 minutes; OBB services from Zurich and Munich also serve the station. Plan 5-7 days to explore the full circuit. Summer hiking is good but the resort is primarily a winter destination.
