Saalbach-Hinterglemm anchors the Skicircus, one of the largest connected ski areas in the Alps at over 270km of pistes, linking four villages across the Salzburg-Tyrol border. Saalbach is the livelier end with a strong apres-ski scene and hotels concentrated around the gondola stations. Hinterglemm is quieter and more family-oriented. In summer, the gondola infrastructure serves mountain biking trails, and the area has developed into one of Austria's leading downhill bike destinations. Getting here involves a bus or taxi from Zell am See, which is 80 minutes by rail from Salzburg. Plan at least 4-7 days in winter to justify the journey and explore the full circuit.
