Pinzgau follows the upper Salzach west from Zell am See toward Krimml, with the High Tauern rising along its southern edge. The district contains the Kitzsteinhorn above Kaprun, the Krimml waterfalls, the northern approach to the Grossglockner road, and a long chain of mountain towns and valleys.
The distances are substantial enough that Pinzgau works best as a geographic organizer rather than a single base. Its child destinations tell the practical story of where to stay and what can sensibly be combined.
