Leopoldskron-Moos begins close to Salzburg’s old town but quickly opens into water, meadows, and low-density residential streets. Schloss Leopoldskron stands beside the pond and is best known internationally through The Sound of Music, although its connection to festival founder Max Reinhardt is at least as important locally.
The district works best on foot or by bicycle. Its value is the transition from the compact city to a surprisingly open rural edge, with the fortress behind and the Untersberg ahead.
