Hohenems has a Jewish Museum tracing one of western Austria's most significant historic Jewish communities, established here in the 17th century by the Counts of Hohenems as a deliberate commercial settlement. The museum is one of the better Jewish heritage institutions in Austria. The 16th-century Renaissance palace of the Hohenems counts is the other architectural anchor. The Schubertiade classical music festival, one of Europe's leading Schubert events, has roots here and still holds some events in the town. About 10 minutes from Dornbirn by car.
