Gamlitz

Gamlitz is the center of the South Styrian wine road, a landscape of rolling vineyards

Gamlitz is the center of the South Styrian wine road, a landscape of rolling vineyards and wine hills that genuinely resembles Tuscany and produces some of Austria's most internationally regarded white wines. Sauvignon Blanc and Gelber Muskateller from the volcanic and sandy soils here have built Styria's modern wine reputation. Buschenschanken (farm wine taverns where producers sell directly with simple food) open seasonally across the hills. Pumpkin seed oil, Styria's other iconic product, is on every table. Boutique hotels and vineyard guesthouses make Gamlitz a 2-3 night destination. About 1 hour south of Graz by car.
