Fuschl am See is a small village on one of the clearest lakes in the Salzburg region, 20 minutes east of the city. Schloss Fuschl, a 15th-century hunting castle on a peninsula converted to a luxury hotel and former Austrian Foreign Ministry guesthouse, defines the lake's upscale character. The accommodation options are limited to the Schloss Fuschl and a few private properties; most visitors come as a day trip from Salzburg. The Wolfgangsee and Mondsee are within easy reach. The Salzburg Sound of Music filming locations are in the surrounding area.
