Feldkirch has the most intact medieval old town in Vorarlberg and most travelers miss it by stopping only at Bregenz. The arcaded Altstadt, the Schattenburg castle, and the walkable center make a 3-4 hour visit genuinely rewarding. The city sits at the gateway to Liechtenstein (15 minutes by car) and Switzerland, on the main Arlberg railway route. The Montforthaus, a 2016 concert hall, anchors the contemporary cultural program. About 30 minutes from Bregenz by train. One of western Austria's most underrated overnight stops.
