Bludenz sits where five Vorarlberg valleys converge and has been a transit hub since the medieval period. It is also the home of Milka chocolate: the Suchard factory has been producing chocolate here since 1887, and the town refers to itself as "Schokoladenstadt." The five valleys radiating from Bludenz include the Montafon, Brandnertal, and Grosses Walsertal, each with its own ski area and alpine character. The old town center is compact and worth a brief walk. About 45 minutes from Bregenz by train. A practical regional base for anyone working through Vorarlberg's southern valleys.
