Bad Kleinkirchheim in central Carinthia is one of the few Austrian mountain destinations where the ski area and the thermal spa are genuinely integrated rather than adjacent. The Roemerbad and St. Kathrein Therme sit at the base of the runs. The Nockberge mountains are rounded and accessible, making the terrain moderate rather than extreme. Franz Klammer, Austria's most famous downhill skier and 1976 Olympic champion, is from a nearby village. The Franz-Klammer-Trail runs through the ski area. In summer, the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve opens trails through a landscape of forested ridges and alpine meadows. About 1 hour from Klagenfurt by car.
